What is a Stocks and Shares ISA?

A Stocks and Shares ISA is an investment account that lets you grow your money without paying tax on any profits or income earned within the account. Keep in mind that because your money is invested in the stock market, its value can fall as well as rise. Instead of sitting in cash, your money is typically invested in:

What Is the Stocks and Shares Allowance?

The Stocks and Shares ISA allowance is the maximum amount you can pay into your ISA each tax year. The allowance resets every tax year (from 6th April), and it applies across all ISA types, including Cash ISAs and Lifetime ISAs. Current allowance: £20,000 per year. You can choose to use your full allowance in one ISA or split it across different accounts, depending on what suits your goals.

Can I Transfer a Stocks and Shares ISA?

Yes, you can transfer a Stocks and Shares ISA to a different provider. You can also open up a second account if you don’t want to close your existing account, since there is no cap on the number of accounts you can have. Depending on the provider you choose, you may need to have a minimum amount in your account to transfer. Some providers may also charge a fee, although many offer free Stocks and Shares ISA transfers.
