Autumn is very much here - the nights are drawing in, there's a chill in the air, and we're even considering putting the heating on! It's also the time of year when we're starting to think about having warmer meals, and what could be more appropriate than a nice bowl of hot soup! There are plenty of options in the shops, from classic tinned flavours to the fresher cartons of soup; however, making soup at home is increasingly popular. Making your own rather than store-bought means you can make your favourite combinations, but you also know exactly what's in it, without having to spend time checking labels for processed ingredients.
If you are thinking of trying homemade soup, there are a few things you will need!
Many soup recipes start with roasted vegetables, and we love this set of 3 Pyrex Glass Oven Baking Dishes*. The high sides mean less splashing during cooking, and they have wide, ridged handles, meaning they're easy to lift up even with thick oven gloves on. The glass finish is hygienic and scratch-resistant, making it easier to clean, and there's no coating that could potentially get damaged and seep into food. Plus, these oven dishes are very versatile - you can use them for making plenty of meals, and they're even air fryer resistant if you have one that's big enough!
Once the veg is ready, it will need to be turned into a liquid - there are handheld blenders and soup makers you can use for this, but if you're looking for a multi-use item, then a blender will do just the trick. Perfect for soup season and beyond, just chuck those veggies in! We love this Tefal Blender*, which is great for soups and smoothies alike - you can even blend ice in it!
If you're adding lentils, broths, or other liquids to your soup, you're going to need a big stockpot to simmer your soup. We've picked out this 4.5 L stockpot with a glass lid*. This is big enough for making a few portions without being too big to store, and will also come in handy for cooking other meals. Easy to clean and dishwasher-safe, it's a great addition to the kitchen cupboard!
Once your soup is ready to serve, you can't go wrong with some bread or a sandwich on the side to enjoy it with. We love this Soup and Sandwich bowl*, which is dishwasher- and microwave-safe and adds a little bit of whimsy to your lunchtime!
